Watching bird feeders on a snowy day was the inspiration for this poem.
Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. – Isaiah 1:18

I’d never seen a cardinal
for too far West I’d been.
Its redness took my breath away
Reminded me of sin.
It was for us, a covenant
Blood of the brightest red.
Forgiveness of our many sins,
This Jesus our Lord said.
When round about my head swarms
Doubt and fears, an ugly shame.
Reminders of things I’ve done;
The accuser comes to blame.
But You see each bird in flight,
You care for it and me.
Your blood made a way if I
But open my eyes to see.
So clean our hearts can be! Look:
Cardinals in the snow!
They tell us of the perfect peace,
Only His children know.
